Wednesday on the 4th of September 2013 we were once again at the 7th floor of strong.
We have a break and Florian was able to go home last week end from Saturday afternoon to Monday afternoon. Last week we were here because he had a neutropenic fever and didn't have any white blood cells to defend himself. He had to avoid anything that could possibly give him an infection.
Monday he started to have the same symptoms as last time. His stomach was hurting, he was vomiting, and he couldn't eat anything anymore. Overall, not the best. At least the diagnose was easy since he knew exactly what it was right away. Unfortunately given that Monday was a holiday for us Jacques had to go the the emergencies at Strong and had to wait for 4 hours to have some give him his bed on the 7th floor. Of course the spectacle was pretty varied and interesting at the emergencies during a holiday. The guy next to Florian had gotten beaten up, had a broken jaw, and had lost his "fiance", overall just great people. Once on the 7th floor he was able to once again appreciate the peace and calm of his room and the nice nurses.
Yesterday, Tuesday was not an easy day for Florian, he was very nauseous and had a stomach ache. The painkillers didn't really help either. The problem is with his pancreas and you can only wait: not eating and drinking for a few days clears it up on it's own.
Today is going much better, he still can't eat or drink but the pain and nausea are no longer intense. Of course this is not including the chemo that has been put on hold which we were at the end of the cycle.
It's now clear that the pancreatitis has been caused by the drug PEG-Asparaginase. In both cases it was developed about 15 days after having taken the drug. We will see what they decide next regarding this.
